We Eat From, Live With and Love

Molly Hatch

‘As we move through our daily lives, eating breakfast, sipping an afternoon cup of tea or

gathering for a family dinner, the patterned ceramic objects we live with are precious

A Passion for China is a personal celebration and exploration of the everyday beauty of tableware.

In this beautiful new book, acclaimed ceramicist, artist and designer Molly Hatch explores the family

lessons, and family anecdotes, she envelops readers in her world and revitalizes the incredible history

behind Aine china.

These quotidian ceramics evoke lost memories and meaning––they are the plates, the cups, the saucers,

the jugs that are laden with a sense of home and of comfort. The items that are not broken along the way

are taken with us and cherished, forming part of our heritage and our family identity.

In order to deepen her understanding of these objects, Molly Hatch immersed herself in the history of

porcelain, potteries and patterns, bringing them to life with an informal eye for fascinating detail. She

discovers the provenance, the production methods and the people behind these items, furnishing them

with their own narratives and bringing their unique stories to life.

Every page is richly decorated, and the book is bursting with over 100 watercolour paintings and pen

drawings by the author herself, along with intimate, vintage family photographs to compliment Molly’s

A Passion for China is an enchanting tribute to the rich heritage of the vintage plates, jugs and pots that

make our homes our own.
